What is GO for EDU?

GO for Healthy Schools and Communities is an open collaboration of physicians, health systems, medical and nursing schools, universities and colleges, working with Oklahoma public schools and in partnership with GO for Great Schools through the GO for Healthy Schools and Communities Education Tax Credit Fund.

Oklahoma law gives everyone who pays Oklahoma state income taxes, including businesses and individuals, the opportunity to earn a 75% tax credit by making a contribution that benefits K-12 education.

Contributions develop, fund and staff health programs that serve students and teachers in the school, and that build pathways for high school students into university and college health programs or directly into health careers, while serving the school community and the people living in and near the school.

A message from our Founding Leader.

Scott Shepherd, DO, FACP

Dear Friends of Healthy Schools and Communities:

Every day in my practice I see how much health shapes a person's life, and for a child, health shapes learning. A student managing an untreated condition, or coming to school without the support they need, is working twice as hard just to keep up. Teachers carry that load too, often at the expense of their own health.

At the same time, Oklahoma needs more doctors, nurses, technicians and public health professionals, and many of them are sitting in our high school classrooms today. GO for Healthy Schools and Communities brings these two needs together. Working with public schools and in partnership with GO for Great Schools, we will create health programs that serve students and teachers in the school, and give students real exposure, instruction, training and mentorship in health-related fields, with clear pathways into university and college programs or directly into health careers after graduation. Students will learn by serving their own school community and the families and neighbors living in and near their schools.

No single hospital, university or practice can do this alone. That is why this is an open collaboration, inviting every health-focused organization in our region to help build and staff these programs across the usual silos.

Contributors to the GO for Healthy Schools and Communities Education Tax Credit Fund earn an Oklahoma state income tax credit worth up to 75% of the amount contributed. Tax credits reduce your tax liability on a dollar-for-dollar basis, which makes them especially valuable for you.

Please take a few minutes to review this page and consider making a contribution to help build healthier schools, healthier communities and Oklahoma's future health care workforce.

Sincerely,

Scott Shepherd, DO, FACPFounding Leader

FAQsGO for Healthy Schools and Communities Program

What is GO for Healthy Schools and Communities?

GO for Healthy Schools and Communities is an open collaboration of health-focused organizations working with Oklahoma public schools, in partnership with GO for Great Schools. Contributions to the GO for Healthy Schools and Communities Education Tax Credit Fund support educational improvement grants that fund innovative programs in public schools, focused on health programs for students and teachers, health-career pathways for high school students, and service to the communities around each school. Contributors earn an Oklahoma state income tax credit worth up to 75% of the amount contributed.

What kinds of programs can I support?

Contributions can be designated to the GO for Healthy Schools and Communities Education Tax Credit Fund as a whole or to the specific health programs listed on this page, which are developed together with partner public schools and Health Partners.

Who are the Health Partners?

Health Partners are health systems, medical and nursing schools, universities, colleges, practices and other health-focused organizations that join the collaboration to help raise contributions and to design and staff programs with partner schools. Each Health Partner can have its own contribution link, and every contribution supports the shared GO for Healthy Schools and Communities Education Tax Credit Fund.

Who can contribute?

Anyone who pays Oklahoma state income tax: individuals (up to a $1,000 credit each year), married couples filing jointly (up to $2,000) and businesses (up to $100,000).

Can I contribute both personally and through my business?

Yes, you can contribute either personally (as a single person or jointly as a married couple) or through a legal business entity that you control, or both.

Please Note: To contribute BOTH personally and through your business, you will need to create a GO Contributor Account for your personal contribution using a personal email address and for your business contribution using a unique email address for your business.

How can a tax credit save me more than a tax deduction?

Think of a tax credit as a gift card that you can use to pay your taxes. Tax credits directly reduce your tax burden on a dollar-for-dollar basis regardless of your marginal tax rate. On the other hand, the value of a tax deduction depends on several factors specific to each taxpayer, including whether you itemize deductions and your marginal tax rate. A tax deduction only reduces the base of your taxable income and therefore only indirectly reduces your tax burden by saving you cents on the dollar.

How much of a tax credit will I get?

If you commit in writing to contribute the same amount for two consecutive years (e.g. 2026 and 2027), the law grants you a tax credit of 75% of the amount contributed each year. A single-year contribution earns a 50% tax credit.

Where does my contribution go?

Your contribution supports educational improvement grants that fund innovative programs in public schools through health-related innovative educational programs: programs that serve students and teachers in public schools, and that give students exposure, instruction, training and mentorship in health-related fields, with pathways into university and college programs or directly into health careers, while serving the school community and the people living in and near the school.

What is the deadline to contribute?

Contributions received by December 31 count for that calendar year, both for your Oklahoma state income tax credit and for your charitable tax deduction.

Our 2026 Contribution Goal
